Automated Complexity Assessment of English Informational Texts for EFL Pre-service Teachers and Translators

Automated text complexity assessment tools are of enormous practical value in solving the time-consuming task analyzing English informational texts for their at pre-reading stage. The present study depicts application automated analysis system TextEvaluator as an effective tool that helps analyze on eight dimensions follows: syntactic complexity; academic vocabulary; word unfamiliarity; concreteness; lexical cohesion; interactive style; level argumentation; degree narrativity, with further summarizing them overall genre-dependent score. This research examines four genres – legal, linguistic, news, and medical used teaching reading comprehension to EFL (English a foreign language) pre-service teachers translators universities Ukraine. data obtained help has shown legal most difficult comparison texts. In contrast, least challenging out compared. provided insight into across different would be useful assembling corpora passages scaled specific predict difficulty translators.
